Why CPD matters

Under NSW rules, licensed builders and swimming-pool builders must earn a minimum of 12 CPD points in the 12 months before renewal. Points are earned through outcome-based, interactive learning, and some activities are worth 1 point per hour or 2 points per hour, depending on the learning type. Up to 11 surplus points can be carried forward for one year. These official requirements are set out by the NSW government guidance for builders’ CPD.

What the AMEC College program offers

  • Low cost: Access the full CPD library for a small annual fee ($50/year advertised on the program page).

  • Earn CPD points: Courses are structured so you earn 1 CPD point per 1 hour of interactive, outcome-based learning (so one 1-hour module = 1 CPD point).

  • Monthly new courses: A new course is added every month across the eight Building Commission NSW topic areas, so you can pick topics relevant to your practice (legislation/compliance, WHS, technical, sustainability, business management, contracts, communications, ethics).

  • Instant certificate: Download your record of attendance and CPD certificate immediately upon completion, ideal for licence renewal or an audit.

  • Flexible delivery: Online, self-paced, start immediately after enrolment with instructor support and quizzes to confirm learning.

Who this is for

This program is tailored for NSW licensed builders and pool builders who need a straightforward, low-cost way to meet CPD obligations while juggling site work, client meetings and business admin. It’s especially useful for small business owners and sole traders who need flexibility.

How it works

  1. Click Enrol on the AMEC College CPD page.

  2. Create an account and unlock the training library.

  3. Choose 1-hour modules that map to the eight required topic areas.

  4. Complete interactive content and quizzes, then download your instant certificate for each completed module.

Practical tips for using the program

  • Plan ahead: Spread learning across the year so you don’t leave the 12 required points until renewal time. The monthly course releases help you schedule new topics.

  • Mix topics: Make sure your CPD mix covers at least one of the required topic areas each year; the program covers all eight.

  • Keep records: Save certificates and module details; NSW recommends keeping CPD evidence in case of audit.
