Roof Safety for Builders

This 1-hour CPD course provides NSW builders with the practical knowledge needed to safely plan and manage roofing work in accordance with NSW Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and industry best practice.

The course focuses on identifying roof hazards, implementing effective risk controls, preparing compliant Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and reducing the risk of serious injuries and fatalities associated with working at heights.

What You’ll Learn

• How to identify and assess common roof-related hazards, including fragile surfaces, unprotected edges, weather conditions, and UV exposure
• How to apply the Hierarchy of Controls to eliminate or minimise fall risks before relying on personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Your responsibilities under NSW WHS legislation, including preparing site-specific Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for high-risk work
• Safe setup and use of access equipment, including the 1:4 ladder rule, ladder positioning, and certified roof anchor systems
• How to develop effective emergency rescue plans to address suspension trauma following a fall-arrest incident
• Safe work practices when working on asbestos cement roofs and other brittle roofing materials
